The mission of the Center for Integrated NLP & CBT is to heal emotional wounds, resolve behavioral and interpersonal problems and support the personal development of our clients and students through the application of Neuro-Linguistic-Programming and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)?
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is an advanced communication technology that was developed by modeling effective communication patterns of people who stood out as exemplars in the fields of psychotherapy, leadership, and change management.  These effective communication patterns and techniques can be taught to others to help them make important changes in their lives, communicate more effectively with themselves and with others, and support themselves as they work toward accomplishing meaningful goals.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on the important role that an individual’s unique thinking (i.e., self-talk, images, perspectives’ etc.) has on the way he/she feels and behaves. CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, rather than the external events that are happening around us.  In other words it is the unique meaning an individual is making about his/her external events rather than the external events themselves that cause him/her to feel and behave in a dysfunctional (or functional) way.

The originators of CBT (Aarron Beck, Albert Ellis, etc) identified the main distorted thinking patterns that cause a person to feel anxious, depressed, enraged, and hopeless and developed cognitive and behavioral techniques that have been proven (in many large clinical trials) to help relieve these emotional/behavioral problems.

The benefit of the CBT perspective is that if we focus on changing the way we think, we end up changing the way we feel and act even if the situation around us does not change. CBT also actively trains clients how to effectively solve problems.  This unique focus on changing one’s thinking and applying effective problem solving sets CBT apart from the more traditional psychodynamic therapies which focus more on understanding where interpersonal problems and patterns developed by focusing on the individual’s childhood experiences.  Though CBT spends some time looking back into a person’s past, it's main focus is on the present.

The CBT therapist actively teaches and applies cognitive and behavioral techniques during therapy sessions while the client implements these techniques and completes homework assignments between sessions.  It is this active, collaborative relationship that helps the client to reduce their emotional distress and begin making positive changes
in their life.

What is Personal Development Coaching?
Personal Development Coaching is a professional process where by a coaching-client is invited to "think out-loud" with their coach on a regularly scheduled basis with the intent and purpose of personal development growth and goal achievement.  As your personal development coach, I will intently listen to you, affirm who you are and who you are becoming and what you are striving to achieve.  Together we engage in a problem solving process where we seek to gain clarity of the various issues you are facing.  As your coach, I support and challenge you and offer my experience as well as use NLP and Cognitive Behavioral techniques and personal development exercises geared toward moving you toward the achievement of your goals and personal growth.

What kind of Psychologist/NLP-Trainer/Coach Am I?
